December 16, 2019 – Gatineau – The Gatineau Loppet is proud to announce that the designated event for the Canadian Loppet Championship 2020 will be the 51 km free technique on Sunday, February 16, 2020. The spectacular and challenging point-to-point course starts from just outside the picturesque village of Wakefield and finishes at École secondaire Mont-Bleu in Gatineau.
“The Gatineau Loppet has a rich history of bringing some of the very best loppet racers from Canada and the world to Gatineau,” said Jean-François Rochefort, President of the Gatineau Loppet. “It is our goal to continue to provide an elite race experience of the highest quality and a very warm welcome to all competitors!”
The event will be sanctioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS) and Nordiq Canada (NC) with seeding and assigned start positions for elite racers.
Prize money for both women’s and men’s elite categories is as follows:
- 1st: $1200
- 2nd: $600
- 3rd: $200
Elite women and men skiers participating in the 51 km free technique event who have a realistic chance of recording a top 3 finish (women’s and men’s overall categories) can apply to be considered for a limited number of free accommodations. Rooms have been set aside for Friday and Saturday night of race weekend. To apply, skiers must submit results for national or international races of 30 km and over as well as their FIS and/or NC licence number before January 15, 2020 to email@example.com.

- Some famous past winners among men include Canada’s own Pierre Harvey, Bill Koch (US), Pauli Siitonen (Finland), Örjan Blomquist (Sweden), and Stanislav Řezáč (Czech Republic).
- Women’s winners include Canadian National Team members such as Marie-Andrée Masson, Angela Schmidt-Foster, Dasha Gaïazova, and Jane Vincent as well as international competitors such as Muffy Ritz (US), Maria Theurl (Austria) and Gudrun Pflüger (Austria).
- Snow conditions are highly reliable; the Gatineau Loppet has never been cancelled in its 41-year history!
